The World Health Organization defines health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Healthy Mouth, Healthy Child is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to assisting children in growing up in a healthy fashion by eradicating ECC, the most common of childhood chronic diseases. Our purpose is to conduct research, teach prevention, and promote diagnosis and treatment of ECC world wide.
ECC is widespread and yet 100% preventable tooth decay affecting one quarter of all children in North America 5 and under. Correlative research in the medical literature indicates that children who suffer from toxic stress have demonstrated changes in their neurodevelopment, and we are of the opinion that children with ECC who are sleep deprived, malnourished and in chronic pain suffer from toxic stress.
The U.S. Surgeon General says that dental caries is “the hidden epidemic” that is “the single most common chronic disease” among children:5 times more prevalent than asthma
7 times more prevalent than hay fever.
